Gradually. A staged transition gives the digestive system time to adjust — moving too fast can cause loose stools, not because raw disagrees with your pet, but because the gut microbiome needs time to shift.

Slightly softer stools in the first week are normal. If they persist beyond a few days, slow down and spend longer at each stage. Pets who have been on kibble for years often do better with a probiotic during the changeover — the green tripe in every Organic Paws recipe helps here too.

Yes, when done properly. The usual concern is bacteria, but dogs and cats have far stronger stomach acid than we do (roughly pH 1–2 against our pH 2–4) and a much shorter digestive tract — they are built to handle raw protein.

Handle it as you would any raw meat in your own kitchen: thaw in the fridge rather than on the counter, wash bowls, hands and surfaces after serving, and don’t leave food sitting out.

The other half of the answer is formulation. Assembling raw meals at home without nutritional knowledge is where imbalances creep in — every Organic Paws recipe is complete and balanced, so there is nothing to calculate.

One exception: if your pet is on immunosuppressive medication, has a compromised immune system or is recovering from illness, speak to your vet before starting a raw diet.

Yes — they can start on raw from weaning, and doing so early helps establish a diverse gut microbiome.

Growing animals are more sensitive to portion size and calcium-phosphorus balance than adults, which is exactly why a complete formulated recipe is safer than improvising at home. Under six months they eat roughly twice the adult amount for their body weight, split across two meals a day — the feeding calculator above works this out for you.

Yes. All five Original Blend recipes are formulated for both dogs and cats, as are the Turkey & Chicken Organ Blend and Lamb & Chicken with Turmeric from the Powerhouse range.

The one exception is Goat & Lamb with Leafy Greens, which is formulated for dogs only.

Cats should have their daily amount split across two meals. Fussy cats often transition more easily if the food is served at room temperature rather than straight from the fridge.
